Choghadiya divides the day — sunrise to sunset — into eight equal windows, and the night into eight more, each carrying one of seven qualities: Amrit, Shubh and Labh (auspicious), Chal (neutral, fine for travel), and Udveg, Kaal and Rog (set aside for new beginnings). The sequence starts from a fixed name each weekday, but the clock times depend entirely on your city's real sunrise and sunset — so this tool computes them for the city and date you choose rather than reusing a Delhi table for all of India.

What each choghadiya is used for
Each day is divided into eight choghadiya periods by day and eight by night, each ruled by a planet. The tool above calculates them for your own location and date. What each is traditionally used for:

Worked example: day Choghadiya in New Delhi on Monday 5 October 2026
Sunrise is at 6:17 am and sunset at 6:01 pm, so each of the eight day Choghadiyas lasts 88 minutes. A Monday day begins with Amrit, and the sequence then runs: Amrit 6:17 am–7:45 am, Kaal 7:45 am–9:13 am, Shubh 9:13 am–10:41 am, Rog 10:41 am–12:09 pm, Udveg 12:09 pm–1:37 pm, Chal 1:37 pm–3:05 pm, Labh 3:05 pm–4:33 pm, Amrit 4:33 pm–6:01 pm. The auspicious windows that day are Amrit, Shubh and Labh; Chal suits travel and routine work.

Gujarati Choghadiya names
In Gujarat the same periods are called Amrut, Shubh, Labh, Char, Rog, Kaal and Udveg: Amrut is Amrit and Char is Chal. The times and their order are the same as in the table above, and Amrut, Shubh and Labh are the good ones for starting work.

How this is calculated
Sunrise and sunset are computed for the latitude and longitude of the city you choose, and the day and night are divided by the classical rule for each period. Tithi and nakshatra come from the Moon's and Sun's positions on the Swiss Ephemeris, with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa for sidereal values. Method reviewed by Dr. R.P. Which Choghadiya is best for starting new work?
Amrit, Shubh and Labh are the favoured windows; Chal is acceptable for travel and movement. Udveg, Kaal and Rog are set aside for beginnings — though tradition allows Kaal for wealth-accumulation tasks and Rog for confrontation.
Is night Choghadiya used the same way?
Yes — the night half (sunset to next sunrise) has its own eight windows with the same names and rules, useful for late travel or night-shift beginnings.
Why do my Choghadiya timings differ from another site?
Most sites print one city's table for the whole country. The window lengths equal one-eighth of your city's actual daylight, so correct timings must be computed from local sunrise and sunset — as this tool does.
