Instant and free — no signup. Pick your city and date; this tool computes the five limbs of the panchang — tithi, vaar, nakshatra, yoga and karana — from your city's real sunrise, on the same sidereal (Lahiri) engine as the site's full kundli tool.

The five limbs of the Panchang

Panchang means "five limbs." Tithi is the lunar day — the angle between Moon and Sun in 12° steps, thirty across the month. Vaar is the weekday and its planetary lord. Nakshatra is the star the Moon occupies (27 in all, each 13°20'). Yoga is a Sun-plus-Moon combination (27 named yogas), and Karana is half a tithi (eleven karanas cycling). Read together they give the character of the day.

Why it is anchored to sunrise — and to your city

The panchang for a date is read at local sunrise. Because sunrise shifts with latitude and longitude, the tithi and nakshatra prevailing at sunrise — and every timing derived from them — genuinely differ from city to city. This tool computes from your city's real sunrise rather than copying one location's almanac, which is why it asks for your city.

From the day to the muhurat

Knowing today's tithi and nakshatra is the first step. Fixing an actual muhurat for a marriage, griha pravesh, naming or business launch weighs all five limbs against your own kundli and the running dasha — the day's panchang alone is necessary but not sufficient.

Frequently asked questions

What is Shani Sade Sati?

Sade Sati is the roughly 7½-year period when Saturn transits the twelfth, first and second signs counted from your natal Moon sign, in three phases of about 2½ years each — traditionally a time of testing, responsibility and maturing.

How do I know which phase I am in?

Rising = Saturn in the 12th from your Moon, peak = Saturn over your Moon sign, setting = Saturn in the 2nd. This tool finds your Moon sign and today's Saturn sign and names the phase and its end.

Is Sade Sati always bad?

No — it is a period of discipline and consolidation, not a verdict. Its effect depends on Saturn's strength in your own chart; for some it brings hard-won growth. A personal reading, not a generic label, tells you how it lands.

Is this calculator free?

Completely — no signup, no phone number, and it runs in your browser on the same Lahiri sidereal engine as the site's full free kundli.

About Dr. Sharma's Experience

What does today's panchang include and how can I use it safely?

Today’s panchang lists tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga, and karana, which reflect the Moon’s daily movement through the zodiac and its angular relationships to the Sun. These five limbs are drawn from classical texts such as Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and guide the selection of auspicious times for daily rites, travel, or beginning new work. Observe the tithi and nakshatra for your lagna; if the Moon is in a malefic nakshatra like Ashlesha or Jyeshtha, favoring indoor study or gentle charity is wiser than risky decisions.

Where can I find a reliable panchang for Faridabad and Delhi NCR today?

Look for a panchang calculated for 28.4°N 77.3°E, using the ahargana method and true longitudes of planets; approximate ephemeris can misalign the tithi or yoga by several ghati. A printed almanac or a reputable online ephemeris updated daily for Indian Standard Time will serve you well. Cross-check the lagna rising at sunrise for Faridabad to confirm the day’s first tithi and yoga before planning.

What makes a panchang accurate instead of just approximate?

Accuracy depends on three factors: the ayanamsa used (Classical value 23° 15′ is reliable), calculation of true conjunctions (not mean longitudes), and local time conversion. When the Moon’s actual longitude reaches 12° from the Sun, the tithi changes; when the sum of Sun and Moon longitudes equals a multiple of 800′, the yoga shifts. Use a method that applies these exactitudes rather than rounded tables.

Is there a simple way to know if today is good for starting a new business?

Look at the lagna at sunrise and the Moon’s nakshatra. A lagna with strong lords (e.g., if Lagna lord is in its own or exalted house) and a Moon in Rohini, Uttara Phalguni, or Uttara Ashadha favors beginnings. Avoid starting when the Moon is in Gandanta or in a nakshatra owned by Mars or Saturn unless you accompany the act with a simple ghee lamp offering to Lord Ganesha for obstacle removal.

How do I choose an experienced Vedic astrologer without falling for marketing claims?

Seek someone who explains planetary positions in houses and dashas from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra without resorting to generic horoscopes. Ask how they derive a prediction: genuine work relies on varshaphal, gochara, and ashtakavarga, not vague statements. A professional will also remind you that remedies such as mantra chanting or light charity only create supportive conditions, not guaranteed outcomes.

What classical signs should I notice in a practitioner’s chart to trust their guidance?

Examine the practitioner’s lagna and the 9th house: strong lords or benefic yogas here suggest dharmic counsel. Jupiter in the 5th or 9th house often indicates deep knowledge of classics. If Saturn aspects both lagna and Moon in the chart, it may point to persistence and caution in advice—qualities that serve clients well. Still, credentials alone do not replace your own discernment.

How can I verify if an astrologer’s readings align with classical principles?

Ask for the specific house placement of Saturn or Rahu in your chart and how it affects your dashas. A genuine reading will include the exact bhava and graha involved, not generalities. Compare the timing of events predicted with your actual life events; classical timing comes from varshaphal and gochara, not from daily transits alone. Keep a dated record of predictions and revisit it after a year.

Does wearing a gemstone quickly improve results, or is there a safer classical approach?

Classical texts advise rigorous checks: the planet must be strong in the chart and the lagna must be free of malefic influences before wearing a gemstone. Hasty gem selection—especially ruby for Sun or emerald for Mercury—can imbalance the humors if the planet is weak or afflicted. Begin with simple mantra chanting (e.g., the beejaksharas) for 21 days and observe changes before considering a stone, always under guidance.

What is Rahu Kaal today and what does it mean?

Rahu Kaal (also written Rahu Kalam) is a daily period of about 90 minutes, ruled by Rahu, that classical panchang tradition treats as inauspicious for STARTING new ventures — signing, launching, journeys, first payments. Its timing changes every day and by city because it is one-eighth of the local sunrise-to-sunset span; today's exact window for your city appears in the panchang above. Routine ongoing work is fine during Rahu Kaal — the caution applies to fresh beginnings.

Is Rahu Kaal the same in every city?

No. Rahu Kaal depends on local sunrise and sunset, so Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai each have different windows on the same date. Always check it for your own city — which is exactly what this panchang tool computes.
