Moon Sign Calculator: Find Your Vedic Rashi
Instant and free — no signup, no phone number, nothing stored. The calculation runs in your browser on the same sidereal (Lahiri) engine as this site's full kundli tool — which is also completely free, PDF included.
Why your moon sign matters more than you think
In Vedic astrology the moon sign (rashi) — not the sun sign — is the primary sign: it maps the mind, the emotional nature, and it anchors the entire dasha timing system and the daily horoscope. When an Indian astrologer asks "what is your rashi," this is the answer they mean.
Moon sign vs sun sign — why your result differs from Western sites
Two reasons. First, Western astrology reads the sun sign; Vedic reads the moon. Second, Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac (aligned to the actual stars, via the Lahiri ayanamsha) while Western sites use the tropical zodiac — currently about 24° apart, which shifts most people back nearly one sign. Both systems are internally consistent; they are answering different questions.
What you get here
Your rashi with its exact degree and planetary lord, and your janma nakshatra with pada — the birth star used for naming, matching and dasha calculation. If you don't know your birth time, tick the box: the Moon moves about 13° a day, so the tool checks whether your sign is certain for the whole date and tells you honestly if it is not.
Also free: the Rising Sign (Lagna) Calculator — the chart's frame, if you know your exact birth time.
Frequently asked questions
What is my moon sign in Vedic astrology?
Your moon sign (rashi) is the zodiac sign the Moon occupied at your birth, measured in the sidereal zodiac. Enter your birth date, time and city above — the result is instant and free, with your nakshatra included.
Why is my Vedic moon sign different from my Western sign?
Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, about 24 degrees behind the tropical zodiac Western sites use — so most people's Vedic sign is one sign earlier. It also reads the Moon, not the Sun.
Can I find my moon sign without birth time?
Often, yes. The Moon spends about 2¼ days in each sign, so on most dates the sign is the same all day. This calculator checks your specific date and warns you if the Moon changed signs that day.
Is this calculator really free?
Completely — no signup, no phone number, and the calculation runs in your browser. It uses the same Lahiri sidereal engine as the site's full kundli tool.
