Kundli matching, or Guna Milan, is the traditional Vedic method of checking compatibility between two people for marriage. The most widely used system is Ashtakoot Milan — eight "kootas" or factors, scored out of a total of 36 points. Each koota looks at a different dimension: Varna (ego and spiritual balance), Vashya (mutual influence), Tara (well-being), Yoni (instinctive compatibility), Graha Maitri (mental friendship), Gana (temperament), Bhakoot (emotional bond), and Nadi (health and progeny, weighted most heavily at eight points).

Here is the honest part that the calculators rarely say plainly: Guna Milan is a starting point, not a verdict. It is built only on the Moon's nakshatra and sign. A complete marriage assessment weighs both people's full birth charts, the 7th house and its lord, the roles of Venus and Jupiter, Mangal (Manglik) and other dosha, and the timing of dashas. A low score does not doom a marriage, and a high score does not guarantee one — many happy marriages have a moderate Guna count. What is a good Guna Milan score?
On the 36-point scale, 18 or more is generally treated as workable, 25 or more as good and 28 or more as excellent. Below 18 is not a rejection — it means the two full charts should be read more carefully.
Is Guna Milan enough to decide a marriage?
No. It is a respected first screen based only on the Moon. The full charts, dosha checks and timing matter far more, and a number should never decide a marriage on its own.
What is Nadi dosha?
Nadi carries the most points (8 of 36). When both partners share the same Nadi those points aren't scored — called Nadi dosha. It is taken seriously, but is often subject to exceptions that only a careful reading can establish, so it should be understood calmly, not feared.
Can kundli matching be done if the exact birth time is not known?

Only the accompanying Manglik dosha check needs the exact time, since that depends on the ascendant (lagna) — the report notes clearly wherever exact time would sharpen a result.

What is the role of the Moon in kundli matching?
The Moon is the foundation of the whole exercise. Guna Milan is computed from the Moon's nakshatra in each chart, not from the Sun sign, and the Moon also governs temperament and emotional response — which is what compatibility is largely about. Two of the eight kootas, Bhakoot and Nadi, weigh the heaviest and both come from the Moon's placement.
What is the importance of the 7th house in kundli matching?
The 7th house is the house of partnership, so its condition, its lord, and any planet sitting in or aspecting it describe the marriage more directly than the Guna score does. A high Guna total with an afflicted 7th house is weaker than a modest total with a sound one — which is why the number alone should never settle the question.
Can a horoscope predict success in marriage?
It can describe the conditions, not decree the outcome. The 7th house and its lord, Venus and Jupiter, and the dasha running at the time of marriage all indicate the shape of the partnership and when it is likely to settle. What no chart can tell you is whether two people will be kind to each other — that is conduct, and it is not written in the planets.
