Navamsa (D9) Chart Calculator
The Navamsa (D9) divides each sign of your birth chart into nine parts of 3°20′ and shows where every planet falls among them. It is read for marriage and the spouse, and to test whether each planet can deliver what the birth chart promises — which is why it needs an exact birth time.
Free, with no signup: enter your birth date, time and city to see every planet's D9 sign, your Navamsa lagna and its lord, the D9 7th house for marriage, and your vargottama planets.
Also called: navamsa chart · D9 chart · navamsha calculator · vargottama check · D9 lagna
Instant and free — no signup, nothing stored. The lagna is computed in your browser on the same sidereal (Lahiri) engine as this site's full kundli tool — which is also completely free, PDF included.
What the Navamsa chart shows
The Navamsa (D9) is the most important divisional chart in Parashari astrology. It is read for marriage and the spouse, for dharma and the second half of life, and to test whether each planet can deliver what the birth chart promises: a planet well placed in the D1 but weak in the D9 gives less than it seems, while a planet that improves in the D9 often gives more.
How each Navamsa sign is found
Each sign of 30° is divided into nine parts of 3°20′. The count starts from Mesha for fire signs, Makara for earth signs, Tula for air signs and Karka for water signs, which is the same as counting nine Navamsas per sign continuously from 0° Mesha. Positions here are sidereal (Lahiri), computed from your exact birth time and place.
Reading the D9 for marriage
For marriage, look at the D9 lagna and its lord, the 7th house of the D9 and its lord, and Venus (and Jupiter for women's charts in the classical texts). Benefic planets in the D9 7th house, a strong D9 lagna lord and a well-placed Venus are the classical signs of a supportive marriage; afflictions call for a full reading of both charts, which is what Kundli Milan does for a couple.
How this is calculated
Planet positions (and from them the Navamsa signs) are computed in your browser with astronomical formulas that are checked every night against the Swiss Ephemeris, the standard used by professional astrology software. Sidereal positions use the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard ayanamsa of Indian panchangs, and the birth time is converted from your city's own time zone. Method reviewed by Dr. R.P. Sharma, Ph.D. and Acharya in Phalit Jyotish, practising Vedic astrology since 1979.
Last verified: 28 September 2026, against the Swiss Ephemeris and the nightly tool test.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Navamsa (D9) chart?
It divides each sign into nine parts of 3°20′; the Navamsa sign of a planet is the part it falls in. Classical texts use it to judge marriage and the inner strength of every planet.
What does vargottama mean?
A planet is vargottama when it sits in the same sign in the birth chart and the Navamsa. Such a planet is considered strong and reliable in its results.
What is the Navamsa lagna?
The sign rising in the D9 chart. With its lord it describes the inner nature that matures in the second half of life, and it is the starting point for reading the D9 7th house of marriage.
How is the Navamsa read for marriage?
Look at the D9 lagna and its lord, the D9 7th house and its lord, and Venus (and Jupiter, in the classical texts, for a woman's chart). Benefics in the D9 7th and a strong 7th lord support marriage; afflictions call for a full reading of both charts.
Why does the Navamsa need an exact birth time?
The lagna moves one Navamsa about every 13 minutes, so the D9 lagna can change with a small error in birth time, while planet positions change much more slowly.
The calculator shows where each planet falls; weighing the D9 against the birth chart and the dasha is what a reading does. Book a consultation (flat ₹5,100) or ask on WhatsApp.
