What Sade Sati actually is
Saturn takes about 29½ years to circle the zodiac, spending roughly 2½ years in each sign. Sade Sati is the stretch — about 7½ years — when Saturn passes through the three signs around your birth Moon: the twelfth from the Moon, then the Moon sign itself, then the second. Because it is measured from your Moon (your rashi), two people of the same age can be in completely different phases.
The three phases
The rising phase (Saturn in the 12th from Moon) tends to touch expenses, sleep and the sense of an ending. The peak phase (Saturn over the Moon) works on the mind, health and the closest relationships — the most felt of the three. The setting phase (Saturn in the 2nd) turns to family, speech and finances as the period releases. Each lasts about 2½ years.
