What your transits show
Gochar reads today's planets from your own chart. Counting from your Moon sign shows how a period feels day to day; counting from the lagna shows which area of life it touches. The slow planets matter most: Saturn tests and builds over about 2½ years in each sign, Jupiter expands and protects for about a year, and Rahu and Ketu shift focus for about 18 months.
Favourable and testing positions
By the classical rule, counted from the Moon: Jupiter gives good results in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th; Saturn in the 3rd, 6th and 11th; Rahu and Ketu in the 3rd, 6th and 11th. Saturn in the 12th, 1st and 2nd is Sade Sati, and in the 4th or 8th it is Dhaiyya. The running dasha and the birth chart decide how strongly any transit is felt.
How this is calculated
Planet positions (birth chart and today's transits) are computed in your browser with astronomical formulas that are checked every night against the Swiss Ephemeris, the standard used by professional astrology software. Sidereal positions use the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the one adopted by the Government of India's Calendar Reform Committee, and the birth time is converted from your city's own time zone. Method reviewed by Dr. R.P. Sharma, Ph.D. (University of Delhi) and Acharya in Phalit Jyotish (Central Sanskrit University), practising Vedic astrology since 1979.

What is gochar in astrology?
Gochar is the transit of the planets as they move today, read from your Moon sign (and your lagna). The slow planets, Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu, set the tone for months or years.
Which transits matter most?
Saturn (about 2½ years per sign), Jupiter (about a year) and Rahu–Ketu (about 18 months). Saturn in the 12th, 1st and 2nd from the Moon is Sade Sati; in the 4th or 8th it is Dhaiyya.
Does a transit work the same for everyone in a sign?
No. The transit is the same, but its result depends on the birth chart and the dasha running, which is why the same Saturn transit can be difficult for one person and rewarding for another.
