Your rashi is the zodiac sign the Moon was in when you were born, measured in the sidereal (Vedic) zodiac. On most dates the Moon stays in one sign all day, so your date of birth alone usually gives your rashi; add the time and city of birth to be certain and to get your nakshatra.

Is the date of birth enough to know your rashi?
Usually. The Moon crosses the twelve signs in about 27⅓ days, spending about 2¼ days in each, so on most dates it sits in one rashi from midnight to midnight. On a little under half of all dates it moves into the next sign at some hour of the day, and then the birth time decides which rashi is yours. The calculator checks this for your date and tells you if the time is needed.
The nakshatra changes about once a day, so for the nakshatra, the dasha and kundli matching the birth time matters more.
