What Guru Purnima marks, and how it is observed

Guru Purnima falls on the full moon of Ashadha and honours the teacher — traditionally Vyasa, to whom the compilation of the Vedas and the Mahabharata is ascribed, which is why the day is also called Vyasa Purnima.
