Your three stones: life, lucky and punya
Classical practice starts from the lagna, which depends on your exact birth time and place. The life stone belongs to the lagna lord and supports health and confidence; the lucky stone belongs to the lord of the 9th house of fortune; the punya stone belongs to the lord of the 5th house of merit and intelligence. These three planets are always friendly to the chart as a whole.
Check these before you wear any stone
A stone strengthens its planet, so it helps only if that planet is well placed. Avoid stones of the lords of the 6th, 8th and 12th houses; be careful when a trinal lord is weak, combust or placed in those houses; and never combine stones of planets that are natural enemies (for example ruby with blue sapphire). Wear the stone on the traditional finger and day, and try it for a few days first. A gemstone is a spiritual support, not a substitute for medical, financial or legal advice.
How this is calculated
Planet positions (and from them your lagna and house lords) are computed in your browser with astronomical formulas that are checked every night against the Swiss Ephemeris, the standard used by professional astrology software. Sidereal positions use the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard ayanamsa of Indian panchangs, and the birth time is converted from your city's own time zone. Method reviewed by Dr. R.P. Sharma, Ph.D. and Acharya in Phalit Jyotish, practising Vedic astrology since 1979.
Last verified: 28 September 2026, against the Swiss Ephemeris and the nightly tool test.
Frequently asked questions
Which gemstone should I wear according to my birth chart?
Classically, the stone of your lagna lord (the life stone) is the safest starting point, with the stones of the 9th lord (lucky stone) and 5th lord (punya stone) as supports. The final choice depends on each planet's strength and placement, so it should be confirmed on the full chart.
Can I choose a gemstone by my rashi or date of birth alone?
Not safely. A gemstone strengthens a planet; if that planet rules difficult houses in your chart, strengthening it can do harm. That is why this calculator uses your lagna from the exact birth time and place.
Is blue sapphire safe to wear?
Blue sapphire (neelam) is the strongest-acting stone. It suits only charts where Saturn is a functional benefic, and even then tradition advises a trial of a few days before wearing it permanently.
