Grahan 2027: the next major eclipses

The most anticipated eclipse of the decade falls on 2 August 2027 — a total solar eclipse (Surya Grahan) whose path of totality crosses North Africa and the Middle East, with an exceptionally long duration. It is partially visible from parts of western India. A lunar eclipse also occurs earlier in 2027. Full timing, visibility and the Vedic reading are covered here:

As 2027 approaches, this page will carry the complete 2027 grahan calendar in the same format as the 2026 table above.

How eclipses are read in Vedic astrology

In classical Vedic astrology (Medini Jyotish), a grahan carries ritual weight — sutak, fasting windows, temple timings — only in the regions where it is actually visible. An eclipse that occurs while the Sun or Moon is below the horizon in India is astronomically real but ritually a normal day here. That is why several 2026 eclipses, though widely reported, do not trigger sutak for anyone in India.

Which 2026 eclipses matter for India

Of the 2026 eclipses, the 3 March total lunar eclipse is the one visible from parts of India, so sutak applies where it can be seen. The February and August solar eclipses and the 28 August partial lunar eclipse are not visible from India, so no sutak applies here — the IST times are simply the world event on our clock.

Consult on an eclipse's effect on your chart

Whether a grahan affects you personally depends on your own kundli — the houses and dasha it activates — not the eclipse alone. For a personal reading, Dr. R.P. Sharma consults in Faridabad and online across India and abroad, at a flat fee of ₹5,100.
