Dev Diwali, observed on the Purnima of the Kartik month, marks a significant celestial alignment in the Vedic calendar. As we look toward November 2026, it is helpful to understand the traditional significance of this day through the lens of Vedic astrology and ancient observances.

The Astronomical Timing of Dev Diwali 2026

In 2026, Dev Diwali corresponds to the Kartik Purnima, which falls on November 24th. In Vedic astrology, the Purnima Tithi is determined by the moment the Moon is exactly 180 degrees away from the Sun. For the 2026 observance, the Purnima Tithi begins on the morning of November 24th and concludes on the morning of November 25th. Vedic traditions emphasize that rituals performed during the evening of the Purnima—when the Moon is visible and the lunar energy is at its zenith—are considered most appropriate for reflection and meditative practices.

Celestial Alignments and the Kartik Month

The month of Kartik is unique because the Sun is transiting through Libra (Tula Sankranti) and moving into Scorpio (Vrishchika). During this period, the focus in Vedic practice is often on the internal light, represented by the Moon in its full phase. Aligning one's personal practice with the full moon is a time-honored way to cultivate inner stillness and acknowledge the interconnectedness of our lives with the celestial movements.
