Guru Nanak Jayanti 2026: The Date and Gurpurab
The short answer
Guru Nanak Jayanti 2026 falls on Tuesday, 24 November 2026, on Kartik Purnima — the full moon of Kartik. It marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru, and is a gazetted holiday in India. The same day is Kartik Purnima and Dev Deepavali.
The observance, called Gurpurab, is kept with an Akhand Path — a continuous reading of the Guru Granth Sahib completed over roughly forty-eight hours — followed by Nagar Kirtan processions and langar.
Because the date follows Kartik Purnima rather than a fixed civil date, it moves each year; some non-Indian calendars print an incorrect November date for this reason.
Timings follow the New Delhi panchang. Tithi-based dates can shift by a day for other cities and for readers abroad — check your own city’s panchang.
