Kendradhipati dosha is the classical rule that a natural benefic — Jupiter, Venus, Mercury or a bright Moon — loses its power to do good when it rules a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house) and no trikona. Natural malefics ruling kendras, by contrast, lose their power to harm. It is about house ownership, not about planets occupying or aspecting kendras.
The rule
Parashara’s principle: lordship of a kendra makes a planet neutral. A benefic that owns only kendras stops acting as a benefic for that ascendant; a malefic that owns a kendra stops acting as a malefic. The dosha is the benefic side of this rule.
- Ownership of the 1st house does not cause it — the ascendant is both a kendra and a trikona.
- A benefic that also rules a trikona (5th or 9th) is free of it and often becomes a yogakaraka-like helper.
- It is stronger for Jupiter and Venus than for Mercury and the Moon, and stronger when the planet owns the 7th, which is also a maraka (death-inflicting) house.

For these ascendants the planet rules two kendras and no trikona, so the dosha is at its fullest. Venus carries it partly where it rules one kendra and no trikona — for example the 2nd and 7th for Aries, the 4th and 11th for Cancer, or the 7th and 12th for Scorpio ascendant.
Effects
The planet’s dasha gives mixed or ordinary results instead of the help expected from a benefic, and as 7th lord it can bring health trouble in its period. Results still depend on its sign, house placement, aspects and strength — a strong, well-placed kendra lord can give status and results through that house.
What to do
- Judge the planet by the houses it rules for your ascendant, not by its natural benefic label.
- Do not wear the stone of a kendradhipati planet (for example yellow sapphire for Gemini or Virgo ascendant) without a full chart reading.
- Mantra and charity for that planet on its weekday are safe.
