The day
The month of Kartik closes: the last of the Kartik snan baths at dawn, lamps floated on rivers, Tripurari Purnima for Shiva, the Pushkar mela, and Gurpurab — Guru Nanak's 558th birth anniversary — with the akhand path ending that morning.
Why the two evenings
Dev Deepawali is a pradosh (dusk) observance and the Purnima holds the dusk of 13 November; the snan and the Gurpurab follow the sunrise rule and fall on the 14th. Kartik snan 2027: when to take the holy dip
The Kartik Purnima snan (holy bath) is taken at dawn on Sunday 14 November 2027, before the Purnima tithi ends at 8:56 AM IST. The most auspicious window is Brahma muhurta, the 96 to 48 minutes before sunrise: in New Delhi that is about 5:06 AM to 5:54 AM (sunrise 6:42 AM), and in Varanasi about 4:38 AM to 5:26 AM (sunrise 6:14 AM). Lamp offerings (deep daan) on rivers and in temples belong to the evening before, Saturday 13 November, when Dev Deepawali is lit.
