Samagri (items)
- Image or idol of Lord Vishwakarma, red or yellow cloth for the seat.
- Kalash with water, mango leaves and coconut; roli, haldi, akshat (rice), mauli.
- Flowers and garlands, incense, ghee lamp, camphor.
- Fruits, sweets and panchamrit; supari and betel leaves.
- The tools, machines, vehicles or account books to be worshipped.
Step-by-step puja
- Clean the workplace and all tools; switch machines off for the day.
- Set up the image facing east or north, place the kalash and light the lamp.
- Worship Ganesha first, then take a sankalpa for the safety and growth of the work.
- Offer tilak, flowers, akshat and sweets to Lord Vishwakarma while chanting Om Vishwakarmane Namah 108 times.
- Apply tilak and tie mauli on tools and machines; perform aarti; share prasad with every worker.
Tips
- Give workers the day off from machine work and a meal or gift.
- Use the day for safety checks and maintenance.
- Astrologically, the puja is a good support for Saturn (labour, machines) and Mercury (skill, trade) — useful in their dasha periods.
