What is Raj Yoga?
Raj yoga forms when the lord of a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house) is linked with the lord of a trikona (1st, 5th or 9th) — by conjunction, exchange of signs or mutual aspect. A yogakaraka, one planet ruling both, forms it alone. It indicates a rise in status and responsibility, in proportion to the planets’ strength and in their dashas.
How it forms
- A kendra lord and a trikona lord in the same sign
- Or the two lords in each other’s signs (exchange)
- Or the two lords aspecting each other
- Or a yogakaraka — Saturn for Taurus and Libra lagnas, Mars for Cancer and Leo, Venus for Capricorn and Aquarius
- Strongest form: the 9th and 10th lords together (Dharma-Karmadhipati yoga)
What it gives
- Authority, promotion and recognition in one’s field
- Results in the dashas of the planets forming it
- Weaker when the planets are debilitated, combust, in the 6th, 8th or 12th, or also rule a dusthana
