Vastu Purusha: The Deity of Sacred Architecture

Vastu Purusha is the invisible deity whose body forms the sacred map of every building, linking land, layout, planets and life events. When we understand this cosmic frame, our spaces support health, wealth and harmony without superstition.

What is Vastu Purusha and why does he matter in Vedic astrology?

Vastu Purusha is the cosmic being whose prone body embodies the plot of land; his head lies at the northeast corner, feet at the southwest. In Jyotish, every house or office is a microcosm of this deity, so correct alignment with his limbs brings balance while misalignment creates hidden pressures that we experience as delays, disputes or ill-health. Classical texts such as the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra describe how the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, space) and the nine grahas are embedded in the plot itself.

The north-east corner, governed by Jupiter, should remain open and clean, while the south-west, ruled by Saturn, should be heavy and solid. These placements regulate cash flow, memory and stability.

How is Vastu Purusha connected to the twelve houses (bhavas) of a Kundli?

Each of the twelve bhavas in a Kundli corresponds to a limb of Vastu Purusha: the 1st house is his head, 2nd his face, 3rd shoulders, 4th heart, 5th stomach, 6th waist, 7th thighs, 8th knees, 9th calves, 10th ankles, 11th feet, and 12th the space under his feet. When the built form mirrors this map, the owner’s life unfolds as the grahas intend; when reversed, the same grahas create obstructions. For example, a door in the 6th limb area can invite unnecessary expenses.

You can audit your floor plan by overlaying a Kundli with the plot size and orientation; doors and windows should fall on auspicious bhava cusps.

What are the main Vastu doshas and how do they show in a Kundli?

Common doshas include missing or misplaced northeast space (Vastu vastu), cut or sloping land (Kshetra dosha), main door facing a T-junction or toilet (Vastu vastu), and underground water tanks in the southeast (Agni sthana). These map to weak or afflicted houses in the Kundli: 1st for health, 2nd for wealth, 3rd for siblings, 4th for mother and vehicles, 5th for children, 7th for spouse, 9th for father and luck, 10th for career, 11th for gains. A strong Saturn in the 4th or a debilitated Mars in the 2nd can signal such issues.

A simple remedy is to place a crystal pyramid or copper pyramid in the centre of the plot, but first check the Kundli’s dashas to see which remedies will actually activate.

Can Vastu Purusha remedies change the dashas or planetary periods?

Remedies do not override dashas; they work within the planetary periods already operating. If you are in Rahu dasha with a northeast-cut plot, remedies can reduce Rahu’s turbulence; if you are in Jupiter dasha with a clean northeast, they amplify Jupiter’s grace. Think of remedies as aligning the flow rather than changing its direction.

For example, placing a silver wire loop in the northeast during Jupiter’s antardasha can strengthen Jupiter’s natural beneficence, especially when Jupiter aspects or owns beneficial houses in the Kundli.

What practical steps can I take without major construction?

Start with the five elements: keep the northeast corner light and open (space and water), the southeast corner with fire sources (kitchen), the southwest heavy and solid (storage, master bedroom), the northwest airy (guest area). Use natural materials—wood, stone, clay—and ensure the main door opens smoothly inward without obstructions. A small brass Vastu Purusha yantra fixed above the entrance with red sandalwood paste on Tuesday before sunrise activates the space.

For rented homes, a copper pyramid on a wooden base can serve as a portable Vastu anchor; move it with you if you relocate.

When should I consult an astrologer for Vastu Purusha analysis?

Consult when you are planning a new home, buying land, or facing persistent issues in health, finances or relationships that do not respond to medical or financial solutions. A chart-specific Vastu check identifies which planets and dashas govern your space, and whether a remedy must be energised in a particular nakshatra or muhurat.

Bring your Kundli, the site plan with north arrow, and a list of current concerns; the remedy timing is as important as the remedy itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Vastu Purusha affect rented apartments the same way as owned houses?

Yes, because the vastu map applies to any enclosed space you occupy continuously. The difference is in the freedom to alter the structure; you can still use remedies, colours, and furniture placement to align the micro-vastu with your Kundli.

Can I fix a Vastu dosha by simply shifting furniture?

Often yes. If the main door opens into a wall corner, place a wooden screen or a potted plant to soften the edge. If the bed faces a mirror, cover the mirror at night. Small shifts rebalance the vastu without construction.

Do Vastu remedies work better during certain lunar days or nakshatras?

Remedies show quicker effect when performed in the light fortnight (Shukla paksha), on a Thursday, Tuesday or Sunday morning, and especially in Rohini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu or Uttara Ashadha nakshatras. These windows amplify Jupiter, Mars and Sun energies respectively.

Is it necessary to use specific metals like copper or brass for remedies?

Classical texts recommend copper for water-related corrections and brass for Jupiter-related corrections. Silver resonates with the moon, so it helps with mental clarity. The metal’s planetary link matters more than the shape alone.

About Dr. Sharma's Experience

Do you offer Vastu consultation for homes or offices?

Yes. Vastu consultation is part of my practice. I examine the layout relative to the Lagna chart, the Sun's position, and the directional strength of Mars and Mercury, then suggest adjustments to doors, colours, and room placements to improve the five elements balance.

Do you offer numerology, name-correction or palmistry guidance?

No. I specialise in Vedic astrology and Vastu only. For numerology, name-correction or palmistry you may consult a dedicated practitioner, as these systems are distinct from the classical Jyotish and Vastu methods I use.

When is a gemstone genuinely recommended, and which one suits my chart?

A gemstone is recommended only when the lagna lord or a functional benefic is weak in its own house or sign, and the mahadasha of that planet is running. I check the nakshatra dispositor and assess Rahu-Ketu's aspect before advising; never prescribe purely on name or zodiac sign. The proper stone must suit your rashi, nakshatra, and current dasha period.

Who is the best astrologer?

The "best" astrologer is the one whose guidance you can apply practically and who explains your chart using the classical principles. In my practice since 1979, I rely on Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, analyse houses, planets and dashas, and give clear, classical remedies.

According to Vastu Shastra, which direction should the main entrance face?

The best direction depends on your lagna and profession. For example, a Lagna in Aries or Leo benefits from a north-east entrance, while a Lagna in Taurus or Virgo does better with east or north. I examine the lagna chart and the Sun's placement to determine the most supportive direction for the main door.

Do you provide remedies for Vastu defects?

Yes. Common remedies include placing a crystal bowl of water in the north-east, keeping the south-west corner heavy, and using a small silver pyramid on the roof line. These actions support the pancha-bhuta balance and are selected after reviewing the vastu purusha mandala in relation to your lagna and the current mahadasha.

Is a Vastu consultant near me available for a site visit?

I conduct on-site consultations in Faridabad and nearby areas. During the visit I measure directions, check slope, and assess the five elements around the house or office, then combine the findings with your natal chart before suggesting changes.

Do you sell Vastu equipment or crystals?

I do not sell items. After the consultation I can guide you on what to procure—such as a specific metal, crystal, or yantra—and where to source it locally, so you obtain the correct specifications without unnecessary expense.
