Mangla Gauri Vrat is kept on every Tuesday (Mangalvar) of the month of Shravan (Sawan), mainly by married women, for Goddess Gauri’s blessings for a long and happy married life. In 2027 the Tuesdays are 20 July, 27 July, 3 August and 10 August in the north Indian calendar, and 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 August in the amanta calendar used in Maharashtra, Gujarat and the south.

The two lists differ because north India starts Shravan after the full moon (purnimanta) and much of west and south India after the new moon (amanta). Follow your family’s calendar.
Who keeps it
Newly married women traditionally keep it for the first five years of marriage, starting in the first Shravan after the wedding. Unmarried girls sometimes keep it for a good match. Tuesday is Mars’s day, so it is also chosen by women with Mangal dosha in the chart.
Puja vidhi
- Bathe early and take a sankalpa for the vrat.
- Place an image of Goddess Gauri (Parvati) on a red cloth; light a lamp with ghee.
- Offer red flowers, sindoor, bangles, a red chunri, fruits and sweets — often in sets of 16 (solah shringar).
- Chant Om Gauryai Namah or the Mangala Gauri stotra, read the vrat katha and do aarti.
- Eat once in the day, usually without salt and grain as per family custom.
Udyapan (closing)
After the chosen number of years, the vrat is closed with an udyapan: a puja with a priest, feeding of married women or girls, and gifts of shringar items.
