The Parshuram Gayatri is a prayer in the Gayatri meter to Parashurama, Vishnu’s sixth avatar — the brahmin warrior with the axe (parashu), son of the sage Jamadagni. Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra names Parashurama as the avatar of Venus, so the mantra is used as a remedy for a weak or afflicted Venus. Parashurama Jayanti falls on Akshaya Tritiya.
Who is Parashurama?
Parashurama was born to the sage Jamadagni and Renuka and received his axe from Shiva. When arrogant kings abused their power, he fought them to restore dharma, and he later taught great warriors. He is counted among the chiranjeevis — those said to live through the ages.
