Jupiter's 2026: From Opposition to Exaltation

Some years belong to a planet, and 2026 belongs to Jupiter. The year opened with Guru at opposition — its closest, brightest station, outshining every star in the winter sky — and by mid-year the giant crossed into sidereal Karka (Cancer), its sign of exaltation, beginning the transit classical astrology prizes above all of Jupiter's twelve stations. Here is the year's Jupiter, from the astronomy to what it actually asks of your chart.

Opposition: the astronomy of Guru at its brightest

A superior planet reaches opposition when Earth passes directly between it and the Sun — the planet rising at sunset, up all night, at its nearest and brightest for the year. Jupiter's came in early January 2026, the giant blazing through the winter evenings at a brilliance only Venus exceeds. A transit blesses by house: exalted Guru moving through Karka occupies a specific house of your chart — counted from your lagna and your Moon — and its generosity flows to that house's affairs: the 5th's children and studies for one rashi, the 10th's career for another, the 12th's foreign matters and expenditures for a third. Its full trikona aspects extend the grace to two more houses. The transit is then filtered through your running dasha — Jupiter's transit delivers most where Jupiter's or a friendly planet's period is running, and politely underwhelms where the dasha lord has other plans. This is why two neighbours share the same exalted Jupiter and different years: the sky is common, the chart is not.

Using Guru's high season

Practically, for the window while Jupiter runs exalted: matters that were waiting for a 'good time' — a marriage's fixing, an education's start, a dharmic undertaking, the counsel or mentor you kept postponing — have the sky's most classically supportive backdrop of the decade; where your personal dasha agrees, act, and where it does not, use the season for the preparation Jupiter equally rules. Note also whom the transit tests: the classical caution that even exalted benefics press the houses they afflict by position for some ascendants — a reading, not a headline, settles which applies to you.
